From CRSSA to CRSA: SB 5046 Becomes Law

On April 16, 2021, Governor Jay Inslee signed into law SB 5046, which allows Claims Resolution Settlement Agreements (formerly known as Claims Resolution Structured Settlement Agreements or “CRSSAs”) to be paid in one lump sum. This helps avoid the risk of a Social Security offset for worker’s receiving Social Security disability benefits. This bill becomes effective immediately due to an emergency clause that was included. This bill was the result of the combined efforts of David W. Lauman, the employer community, the Department of Labor and Industries, and the Washington State Association for Justice.
