Data Breach at the Department of Labor and Industries

A ransomware attack on Pacific Market Research, an outside contractor for L&I, may have exposed contact information and other personal data for more than 16,000 workers’ compensation claimants.

L&I had contracted with PMR to conduct a customer service survey of those claims who had workers’ compensation claims in 2019. The data that was accessed included contact information, claim numbers, dates of birth, and publicly-available employer L&I account numbers. No medical information, Social Security numbers, bank or credit card information or other personal information was accessed.

L&I’s own systems were not affected by the attack. Out of an abundance of caution, L&I and PMR are offering affected claimants 12 months of free credit monitoring. Notices were mailed to those affected starting June 29th.

If you have any questions or concerns or think you may have been affected, feel free to contact our office.
